Snakes

As the summer temperature rise, be  on the look out for snakes.  With the grass being long, after a wet winter and the rodent numbers on the rise. Snakes will follow.

Commonly seen snakes in the Central western area of NSW  are Browns, Copperheads and Red belly blacks. Brown snakes account for around 6000 animal cases each year, because they are the most aggressive.

Anyone who suspected their pets has been bitten by a snake should take their animal to the vet immediately. Time is critical.

Do Not Leave Your Pets in the Car

In recent weeks, I have lately received numerous reports of dogs left to swelter in the heat of a car without any windows left open.
The dangers of leaving a dog in an unattended car are high and the public needs to be made aware of the potentially devastating impact on pets.
The fines in NSW with the RSPCA is up to $400, with animal cruelty charges.
The temperature can increase dramatically inside the vehicle in a matter of 15 minutes. The inside temperature could be up to 50 degrees, with the outside temperature being 28 degrees.
“Dogs are not able to sweat to cool themselves down. A dog panting in a car will raise the temperature even more quickly. They are at risk of Heatstroke.

Tips

  • Don’t ever leave an animal inside any stationary vehicle (locked or otherwise).
  • Don’t leave an animal on the back of a parked utility, especially in the sun.

The animal must have regular access to cool, clean drinking water.
My best advice to people is to leave their dogs at home if they intend to leave their dog unattended in their car.”
